Der galvanische Strom bzw. Gleichstrom trägt den Namen seines Entdeckers Luigi Galvani, der ihn bereits sehr früh anhand des Zuckens von Froschmuskeln beschrieben hat.

The galvanic current or direct current carries the name of its discoverer Luigi Galvani,who described it very early on the basis of the twitch of frog muscles.

Galvani laid the foundation for  any exploration of the current and its effect inside and outside of biological systems.

The History of Galvano Therapy began in the 19th century. A farmer with a squamous cell carcinoma on the lower lip was working in the field when he was hit by a lightning bolt. He survived this lightning strike and shortly after a doctor reported on January 10th 1880  of the complete healing of the carcinoma.

Cancer cells differ from healthy cells mainly due to the unrestrained growth, affecting neighboring organs and forming of metastases.
Galvano therapy is a minimally invasive,organ-preserving and outpatient feasible tumor therapy. Minimally invasive,because no major procedure is necessary. Organ-preserving because the affected organ will survive and can be carried out outpatiently, because no in-patient stay is required.

Galvano therapy uses direct current by fine, specially developed needle electrodes which are directly brought into the tumor. This stream is making its way due to the special properties of tumor cells - their electrical resistance is less than that of healthy cells - the path almost exclusively through the tumor cells. It's coming thus to an electron flow and  voltage field in the tumor itself. This current is precisely controlled by highly developed electronic equipment.

The Effect of Galvano Therapy results mainly from the interplay of the following effects:

The electrolysis is doubtless one of the most important effects of this form of therapy. A voltage field is created directly in the tumor. Through the two poles, plus and negative polarity, polarization of the ions occurs . The positive charged Na⁺ ions are drawn to the cathode and the negatively charged Cl⁻ ions to the anode.


At the respective pole, reaction occurs of the ions with cell water sodium hydroxide solution or hydrochloric acid. Thus,the tumor around the electrode dissolves around the acid or base. Colliquative and coagulation necrosis arise.This occurs maximally in a radius of 1.5 cm around the electrodes.


Here it is important to note that the time factor plays a significant role:
A correspondingly large effect will be achieved when the patient is administered a corresponding amount of electricity over several hours.

The decomposed tumors are unmasked and reduced by the stimulated, body-specific immune system. The tissue defects are compensated with scar tissue.
